The Custom Audio Electronics (CAE) 3+SE has been a popular all-tube, three-channel guitar preamp, co-designed by Bob Bradshaw and John Suhr in the early 1990s. Celebrated for its tonal versatility and studio-grade performance, it has been a milestone in the rigs of numerous professional guitarists.
The CAE 3+SE has been employed by a range o great names, such as Steve Lukather (Toto), Eddie Van Halen during the recording of the "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" album, Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman (Megadeth) featuring the 3+SE in their rigs during the "Countdown to Extinction" and "Youthanasia" eras and also Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day): Incorporated the preamp into his live and studio setups.
As of now, the CAE 3+SE is no longer in production. However, it remains a sought-after piece on the secondhand market
