Fractal Axe-Fx II Patch based on Mesa/Boogie Mark IV
The Mesa/Boogie Mark IV is one of those rare amplifiers that has achieved near-mythical status among guitarists. Introduced in the early 1990s and built for over a decade, the Mark IV is a cornerstone in Mesa’s celebrated Mark series—a lineage known for precision, versatility, and iconic tones that have shaped everything from hard rock and metal to jazz and fusion.
With its intricate design, powerful voicing options, and trademark Mesa punch, the Mark IV is not just an amp—it’s a professional-grade tone machine.
At the heart of the Mark IV are its three independent channels, each with its own distinct voice and a wealth of tonal control:
-
Channel 1 – Clean:
Rich, warm, and highly dynamic, the clean channel offers Fender-like sparkle with more depth and authority. Whether you're playing jazz chords or ambient textures, this channel maintains clarity and fullness even at higher volumes. -
Channel 2 – Crunch/Rhythm:
Often considered the amp’s secret weapon, Channel 2 covers a massive tonal range—from bluesy grit and classic rock crunch to aggressive mid-gain metal rhythm. It’s punchy, harmonically rich, and responds beautifully to picking dynamics and guitar volume changes. -
Channel 3 – Lead:
This is the Mark IV’s most famous voice—based on the Mark IIC+ circuit that helped define the sounds of players like John Petrucci and James Hetfield. It delivers a fluid, violin-like sustain with tight low end, searing mids, and singing highs. Ideal for high-gain solos and modern metal riffing alike.
The Mark IV was retired in 2008 and eventually succeeded by the Mark V, but it remains one of the most respected amps Mesa/Boogie has ever built. Its blend of vintage character, modern aggression, and in-depth control means it continues to be used in studios and live rigs around the world.
Whether you’re chasing pristine cleans, fat rhythm crunch, or fluid high-gain lead tones, the Mark IV delivers with unmatched finesse and authority. It’s not an amp you play around—it’s one you grow into.
Please note this is a Fractal Axe-Fx II patch. It is NOT a FM3/FM9 patch and you can find this in our catalog.
